Closed setting is our only craft.
Since 2007, Laxmi Diamonds Bengaluru has manufactured closed setting diamond jewellery for India's largest retail groups.
Manufacturing for
Ninety percent of the industry sets stones with prongs. We do not.
In closed setting, every stone is held by a continuous rim of gold, cut and burnished by hand until the metal grips the diamond on its own. There is no claw to hide behind and no way to automate the fit, because each rim is made for one stone and no other.
It is the technique behind South Indian bridal jewellery, and it is the only thing this company has made since 2007.
What a retailer is actually buying.
A closed setting order is judged on four things, and all four are checked before a piece leaves Bengaluru.
Certified stones
Every diamond is handpicked and certified before it is set, so what is specified is what arrives.
Timely delivery
Dates are committed at the order, and the season a piece is made for is the season it ships in.
Showroom finish
The finish is judged as though the piece were already under counter lighting, because it soon will be.
One standard
Quality assurance sits with a director, and the bar does not move between a small order and a full season.
Twelve stages from sketch to setting.
Six are planning and six are hand work. The order never changes, and nothing moves forward until the stage before it passes inspection.
Design
The piece is drawn before any metal is committed.
What we make.
Bridal suites and their components, built to a retailer's own specification and finished to the standard their showroom sells at.
To preserve and promote the 5,000 year old heritage of South Indian closed setting diamond jewellery.
That is the vision the company was started on, and it has not been widened since. Closed setting was never the commercial choice. It is slower, it cannot be automated, and it asks more of a craftsman than any other setting in the trade. It is also the technique that South Indian bridal jewellery has been built on for longer than any of us can trace.
The company exists to keep that craft working at a scale the modern trade can actually buy from, and to hand it to the generation that comes next.
